Can't believe it.......

Postby porky » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:06 am

My hubby uses my car on a Monday evening and smokes in the car so I am used to the smell when I get in to go to work on a Tuesday but this morning guest what........he had only left his ciggies in the car, so there was I alone with a packet of them knowing that if I smoked one hubby would not remember how many he had left in the pack and I could get away with it scott free.

Well I cant believe it but I was not even tempted  and I think that is because I could not face going back to square one again and I know that it will taste awful and I will be so disappointed with myself.

I have a follow up appointment with a Consultant in April (following an illness in December) and I so want to go back to the hospital and say that I have not smoked since being illl on the 7th December.

:Raspberry2: :Raspberry2: :Raspberry2: to fags

Thanks Marg, you must feel great getting to 15 months ?? do you feel like you have well and truly got it beat now ?

On my previous quits, I always felt like I was being deprived of something I so wanted to do but on this quit I felt differently from the start, it was as though I was scared of ciggies and what they were doing to me (I was on oxygen during my stay in hosiptial). They actually became the enemy and I was desperate to win the battle.

This forum and your lovely replies is really helping me stay focused though.

Hi katie

Yeah it feel good to be where I am hun and I know i'll never smoke again now I have my life and health back now

I know exactly what you mean about feeling deprived on other quits hun and almost always folk feeling that way will go back to them sooner or later

This time without that feeling will be better for you promise :Ok: it may still be hard at times but you will win through as long as you keep that thought that you're being deprived of nothing at the front of your mind

You're gaining everything by doing this and losing nothing  well except ill health and smelling like an ashtray and guess you'll be glad to lose them huh

Love and Hugs

Katie, that's just the point isn't it, you would not have got off scot free due to the fact YOU would know you had smoked and you're quitting for you and no one else

Well done for choosing freedom and not one ciggy as we all know one is never just one :Good:

Keep going hun, I think your coming on really well :Give_A_Heart:

Good for you! that'll make you so much happier knowing you conquered a major trigger .

'opportunity'.

So much better than kicking yourself for caving in.

I remember the first cigarette that i smoked on a previous quit (that i obviously failed), and the taste of that 1 cigarette was pretty yuk... to me i may aswell have ate the cig as it tasted that bad. The bitter aftertaste would have been the feeling of letting yourself down, that is something many folk who relapse have a very tough time dealing with.. and having experienced it, i'd want that for no-one.

So you did REALLY REALLY well to resist, you've spared yourself some of the worse feelings by doing so, and in the long run you will look back on this as a major victory.

well done, seriously.. well done.

Hi Jase thanks for your reply and yes I would have been seriously disappointed like you say.

Can you tell me how you get such a detailed tracker of your quit smoking time......i.e. the months, weeks etc ?

Thanks

Katie

Hey Katie, well done on resisting but I don't think you did resist because now you have nothing to resist to, you are a non smoker as simple as that. I would tell him he should not be smoking in the car and the next time he tries to trick you by leaving his fags in the car you'll rip them to pieces.
Seriously well done but how's this. I am still carrying in my pocket a 10 packet with eight cigs in it I bought the day before I stopped now 100 days. I transfer them from one pair of jeans to the next every time I change my jeans. One day I will chuck them ceremoniously away or I may cremate them.
