Illness was just getting to much

Postby kerryuk78 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 7:11 pm

I have given a lot of thought to quitting the cigarettes over the last few months; Its played on my mind every time I’d light up. I’d think to myself while smoking away, WHY? WHY am I smoking this cigarette I’m not really enjoying it! But still I’d smoke another few in an hour or so and still wonder why! So when I got a chest infection and had the flu and felt awful and was being deprived of sleep due to the niggling coughing though the night I began making the conscious decision that enough was enough! I still have a terrible cough not and I have just had enough now.

I originally set my quit date to be February 25th but everything went array when my farther-in-law suffered two major heart attacks and he is still after two weeks in ICU and still fighting like the trooper he is. He has had many other complications while in hospital and one is the awful effects that smoking can do to your lungs, He has had to have so much drained from his lungs in the last few weeks its only now that the fluid its clear, Seeing shit like that happen to someone you love and care so much for is very hard.

I know I was going to quit and I put it on for a while simply because it’s a been an extremely worrying and stressful two weeks for all our family and friends but then I thought I just have to do it or I’ll always find myself finding a reason not too so I said that’s it, I will quit on March 1st The Date is set and I got in the patches (Though I wanted Chapix and the three doctors refused) And got myself ready so now it’s just day by day and see how It goes.

So more than anything it health implications are the biggest and major factor in me taking on the fight against the nicotine.

Obviously there are many other reasons to quit but nothing is more important than your health.

Hi Kerry.
Welcome to the forum, you will enjoy being on hee, everyone are so lovely and helpful. I love being on here and found everyone so wonderful. We also have a lot of laughs to, so hope you join in with us.
Well done on your quit, I am on patches and find they help me. My Mum had a heart attack 3 weeks before Christmas, she had 3 stents put in her heart. She is ok now apart from she gets quite breathless and it will take time before she can get back to do things again, plus she is also limited to certain food, all nice but naughty food she is not allowed any more, ie chocolate, cheese, butter, cream ect. made me think, so thats one reason for me to stop. So can understand what you are saying.
Sorry to hear about your father in law it must of been hard for you.
Just remember any time you need help just post on here, there is always someone to help you.
All the best.
Take care.
Love.
Jilly.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

As time goes on it gets easier but the 1st week is the hardest!

I'd suggest you do some reading to help you change your way of thinking about smoking and nicotine addiction, there are some links in my signature which will help.

Most of all see quitting as a positive thing regaining health wealth and control rather than sacrificing some kind of pleasure.

All the best
